Explosions, Skeletons and More in ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’

Looking for the perfect post-Valentine’s Day movie? ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ may or may not be it. The film stars Nicholas Cage reprises his role as Johnny Blaze in this sequel to the popular 2007 film. His mission? To stop the devil from manifesting himself in a human’s body. Judging by the trailers women may not be the target audience. After all, one of the tv spots on TV states that this film is the perfect film after Valentine’s day.

So who does this film appeal to? While Nicholas Cage has had a habit of shooting films for the family recently, this film is one likely to be seen by fathers and their sons. The trailer contains many explosions, gun shooting and a burning skeleton – not exactly the sweet that little girls are made of. Other than the trailers depicting action and violence, action figures have also been released for this sequel as well as the first film. According to last weekend’s box office report, from Box Office Mojo, the film opened with 25,470,773. 61% of the audience in attendance was male and the budget for the movie was $57 million.

While Nicholas Cage has been criticized recently for his choices in films, it is clear that his box office draw is still alive, especially with a younger audience. Making films for the family has become his forte and is surely earning him major brownie points from soccer moms happy to see their  boys bonding and fathers looking for that special time to share with their kids. With ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ being released one week prior to ‘Ghost Rider,’ there is sure to be lots of competition in the remaining weeks at theaters and in DVD sales. ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ is out in theaters now.
